Health & Safety is particularly important in a workshop with sharp blades . . . .

Obvious dangers in the workshop are saws, knives, chisels, glues, paints. Loud noise from machines can cause hearing damage, and splinters from cutting can fly towards eyes. A less known hazard is that fine sawdust in the air is now reported to be worse than cigarette smoke for the lungs.

We use a variety of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including goggles, ear defenders, and breathing masks. Vacuum equipment connected to machines helps capture some of the sawdust at source. A large airfilt on the ceiling tries to remove fine dust from the air.

This all makes life safer these days, but it certainly is not as easy or convenient as it was in the past 50 years when we never bothered with any of that.
