We have made signs by hand engraving lettering into wood (using a router). These include House Names, Direction pointers, Plant labels, Pet Memorials. and even a Street Name (for a private road). The engraving is then filled with a colour to contrast with the wood colour.  The router is used with a Pantograph (a device that reduces the movement of the router compared to the stylus being guided over the lettering or image). This means we can engrave from any style/size  of lettering or follow simple drawing.

Wood is the main material we’ve used, but I have done tests on rock, slate, plastics, so other materials are possible.

The house Date Stone shown here was hand engraved (hammer and small chisel) into limestone.
